How to make a beef curry

Beef curry is the one of the top dishes at Penang. Its been held by generation to generation. Beef curry is a tasty and spicy non-vegetarian dish. It also not a hard way to cook it. Just get your large frying pan and large saucepan to hand.

As you may gather, go to the nearest butcher shop to buy some beef. Because one of the secret ingredients is the beef must be finest enough. Get the butcher to dice it up for you. Oddly enough I prefer to put it in the freezer for a few weeks to tenderise it. When your ready, get a sharp knife and probably you’ll want to cut up the diced beef into smaller pieces, and remove any fat.

You’ll need to make a paste first in your frying pan. I use Garam Masala, tandoori Masala, black peppercorns and fennel seed and coconut milk. For the hot aspect, I tend to go for cayenne pepper, but be cautious. Because it will be too hot.

Right then, In the frying pan heat up some oil, not to high a heat. Put all the spices together, if necessary you may have to grind some to get them down to a fine powder. Put the mixed spices in the heated oil and blend in. When heated through, add your diced beef. Keep stiring it, till the beef has started to turn to a little bit yellow. Continue gently heating. At this stage you should be boiling some water. Pour some of your beef stock over the diced beef as it’s heating.

Now allow to simmer for an hour and now let recite some surah at the Al-Quran first. Then, chop up your onions and garlic. These can be added later when you think your beef is closed to ready. Mix a little cornflour with water, if you feel your curry is too watery. So, keep sampling your beef till you feel that it’s soft enough. Finally when ready, set it aside to cool down. Then serve it with rice or bread. So there you are. Another little masterpiece by Chef Muhammad Amal!

how to wash clothes

0
Learning how to wash clothes is a very important skill. Failure to acquire this skill is not only unhealthy, but also expensive especially when the washing goes wrong. Fortunately, it is not a very difficult skill to master.
Firstly, change into clothing you don't mind getting soapy water on. If detergent is left on clothing for a long time (until your next washing for instance) it can discolour the clothing. Wash clothes in a place with abundant water such as a shower head, bathtub faucet, or outside using the garden hose or at river side. Next, find a bucket/basin/bathtub/stoppable sink that is big enough to hold your clothes. Remember that clothing is smaller, heavier and harder to manage when wet. Then, add detergent. If you are using liquid, pour it right on. If you are using powder, it might work better to to dissolve it with a smaller amount of water and add cloth.
After that, cover the clothes with water. Whether you use hot, warm or cold water depends on the type of fabric you are dealing with. Cold water is usually the best option for most fabrics and conserves energy. But cold water will shrink wool. Warm water is better for heavily soiled clothes but can shrink cotton. Luke warm water is appropriate for silks. Hot water is the best for socks because it kills fungi. Let the clothes soak for about 20-30 minutes. 20 if you don't have many clothes, 25 if you have a medium amount, and 30 if you have a big bundle of clothing. Don't soak for longer because detergent will both damage the fabric and fade the colour of your clothes.
Next, Use a brand new, never been used before, toilet bowl plunger to agitate the clothes with a gentle up and down action. You can also use your hand to agitate the clothes. Use a brand new, never been used before, toilet bowl plunger to agitate the clothes with a gentle up and down action. You can also use your hand to agitate the clothes. After that, drain out the water. Remove the clothes and let them drain for several minutes. One way is to but the clothes in a sink, the bath tub, or any clean place where the force of gravity will take the water away. It usually takes three changes of water to remove the soap. Put the clothes back in the container and cover with clean water. Agitate them. Drain the water. Repeat this step at least two more times.
Finally, take them out and allow them to drain for several minutes and hang everything up to dry on plastic hangers. As you can see,its not very hard to wash clothes by hand, what it takes is us to spend some time to wash it and it also can save out money.

hari raya!!

salam alaykum

Hari Raya Aidilfitri (also seen as Hari Raya Idul Fitri and Hari Raya Puasa, literally "Celebration Day of Fasting") is the Malay term for the Muslim festival of Eid ul-Fitr. Hari Raya is also known as Lebaran. Muslims in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines celebrate Eid like other Muslims throughout the world. The term "Hari Raya" literally means "Day of Celebration" — it is also occasionally used to refer to Eid ul-Adha in the form of "Hari Raya Aidiladha". The main greeting used by Muslims in Malaysia and Singapore is "Selamat Hari Raya" which means "Happy Eid" in Malay. Another greeting is "maaf zahir dan batin" which translates loosely to "I seek forgiveness (from you) physically and spiritually", for Hari Raya is a time to reconcile and renew relationships with others.

Giants help drive broadband to rural folk

1
PETALING JAYA: Chipmaker Intel Malaysia and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) have joined hands to push for higher broadband Internet adoption among local suburban and rural communities.
SKMM — which regulates the converging communications and multimedia industries in the country — and Intel are promoting the setup and use of community broadband centres (CBCs) in those areas.
As part of the initiative, both parties organised a blogging competition themed “Mengapa saya inginkan broadband? (Why do I need broadband?) at four CBCs in the Besut district in Terengganu on the east coast of the peninsula.
The competition, which ended last month, attracted a large number of first-time participants to the CBCs where they had to use the computers there to create blogs. Intel said more than 350 blogs were created during the three-week long contest.
Mohd Shafie Harun, director at SKMM’s eastern regional office, said activities such as the blogging competition are useful to create more awareness of PCs and broadband, as well as to encourage students to use the Internet facilities at the CBCs.
He said that aside from blogs, the Internet facilities at the CBCs can be a gateway to online-based services such as Internet banking and e-government facilities.
“These services will eventually encourage rural folk to buy their own computers and access the Internet from their homes,” Mohd Shafie said.
Spreading the word
Intel and SKMM hope to extend the blogging competition to other CBCs across the country.
“We are committed to collaborating with the Government and the private sector to bridge the digital divide and meet the country’s goal of achieving a 50% broadband penetration by 2010,” said Nazli Awang Had, business development manager at Intel Malaysia.
The digital divide refers to the gap between the technology haves and have-nots.
After the competition in Besut, the SKMM organised a CBC Open Day which included a series of free talks on subjects that ranged from cybersecurity to positive use of the Internet.
Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, the Terengganu state executive councillor for science technology, education and human resources, officiated at the event.

Microsoft releases app design software

0
KUALA LUMPUR: Microsoft has announced the latest version of its application design program known as Expression Studio and a new version of its application plug-in, Silverlight.
“Many people are streaming videos online these days,” said Microsoft Malaysia product solutions marketing manager, Tang Siak Kwan.
“Businesses need to be better equipped to make applications and people need the most functional way of viewing applications, many of which are video-based.”
Expression Studio 3 and Silverlight 3 are set to come packed with new features. The new version of Silverlight, for example, comes with “smooth streaming,” which adjusts the quality of the video in relation to the bandwidth available.
This is designed to achieve uninterrupted video streaming, Microsoft claimed.
The new version of the plug-in also comes with more format choices. It now supports MPEG4-based H.264/AAC audio on top of the existing Windows Media Audio format.
On the business side, Expression Studio 3 (which fully supports Silverlight 3) offers businesses and individuals alike new features to create web applications.
New features include SketchFlow, which allows designers to navigate through the unfinished application visually to see where changes could be made.
It also allows designers to import files and works in progress from Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Silverlight 3 is available for free download at www.microsoft.com/silverlight. Those with an existing, albeit older, version of Silverlight will be prompted to download the newer version for free.
Expression Studio 3 can be downloaded at www.microsoft.com/expression/try-it.
The pricing depends on the type of package, which ranges from US$149 (RM536) to US$999 (RM3,596). Upgrading from older versions will incur a smaller fee. — STEFAN NAIDU (from thestar.com)
